Facet
International has been a recognized world leader in liquid/liquid
separation for over 50 years. Using expertise gained in refineries,
petrochemical facilities and in the handling of aviation fuels,
Facet developed its first IMO-approved bilge water treatment package
over 20 years ago. Since then it has constantly refined its technology
to meet the needs of the Marine Industry, producing horizontal and
vertical units to utilize limited space available onboard ships.
In fact, Facet manufactures the smallest approved bilge separator
in the world!
In keeping with its progressive approach, Facet is
once again in the
forefront of marine oily wastewater separation with its all new
CPS MK III range of separators. These separators meet all the requirements
of IMO MEPC.60(33) for both light and heavy (S.G. 0.98) oils without
the use of consumables such as filter elements or coalescing pads.
Many of Facet's competitors have developed systems that depend upon
such consumables to work. Although up-front costs may make these
units attractive, most require the equivalent of the initial capital
outlay each year in consumables to perform. This is a major drawback
which should be considered when selecting equipment.

Unlike their predecessors, the CPS MK III separators use Facet's
new patented MPak® coalescing plates. These were developed as
part of an ongoing research program which was fully supported by
extensive field evaluation. The final package is extremely cost
effective and can separate oil from
water to levels below 15 ppm without using consumables.
On this system, the integral pump has been located
on the discharge side of the unit, reducing shear and improving
considerably its "run-dry" characteristics.

The Facet CPS MK III systems are more compact than previous
models and
cover flow rates from 0.5 m3/h (2.2 US GPM) to 15 m3/h
(66US GPM).
They are ready to install, coming complete with pump, valves
and control systems,
including level control.
With the exception of the pumps and valve solenoids they
have no moving parts.
Even the level controller is solid state and has no
float.
Maintenance requirements are very low, being restricted to
occasional hosing down
of the plate packs. Access for cleaning is extremely
simple with the packs being contained
in an integral roll out trough.
Separated oil normally contains less than 5% water and can
be burned, if required.
Oil discharge is facilitated by connection to the ship's
pressurized clear water system,
eliminating the need for a second pump or a compressed
air supply.
The electrical system is available in either 50 or 60 Hz.
Steam or electrical heaters can be fitted in the oil dome
to aid the discharge of heavy oils.
CERTIFICATION AND OPERATIONAL EXPERIENCE
Facet International's CPS MK III systems have been tested and approved
to the requirements of IMO MEPC.60(33) for use with light and heavy
(S.G. 0.98) oils. They have been certified by most registration
authorities, including those of the USA and EC. The cost-effectiveness
and operational reliability of Facet units has been proven many
times since their introduction in 1978. We will be pleased to provide
a reference list if required.
